New and Refreshed

Welcome to the new and refreshed Yoga Space Fitzroy- now called The Yoga Creative – which initially emerged out of my own Gita Yoga training. Since graduating in 2007 Deb and I wanted to create a space to share, practice, teach and grow a teaching community. When I came out of Gita International Yoga, I created the Yoga Space above The PrintMakers Gallery people came and enjoyed my yoga teaching.

The two spaces are interrelated. One of the galleries printmakers, David Nixon inspired the visual background of our original logo which has seen an update into our new logo. The original Linocut ‘Transmutation’ artwork that David created hangs in the studio home in the treatment room.

I initially thought “I Didn’t have the right age and yoga body” but as I began to teach at the studio people and more teachers joined me, I then also went to teach in gyms, (still do)which has given me insight into gym culture (which is very different from the yoga culture we nurture here). Gyms have a team of people doing all their marketing, pushing all the time. The prices are so cheap they sell the ‘as many classes as you can’ so you can take 8 yoga classes a week if you want. But sadly the care of techniques and practice is challenged when 1 Teacher has 20 plus people to care for and limited props. We nurture a very different space, energy and community here at The Yoga Creative.

In recent times there are many negative messages about Male teachers and yoga gurus being inappropriate and we are proud to say we come from a long lineage of female teachers with no issues at all about inappropriate touching. Given we are all following female lead teaching from Gita Yoga we are able to truly understand how to create a nurturing space that is not only creative and welcoming but it is not fluffy, it is backed by science with deep knowledge of the body and how it is best supported.

The reception space is completed with a small shop. Our wall is filled with a variety of goodies and our refreshed space offers an abundance of plants which are all designed to support cleansing the air quality, nurture growth and help improve our practice.
