Sound bath meditation is an ancient practice designed to bring deep states of relaxation and meditation. It uses a variety of instruments, including Himalayan singing bowls, crystal bowls, gongs, chimes, and sometimes the human voice, to create a landscape of sound that washes over you.

The instruments each may offer unique healing frequencies. Himalayan singing bowls are renowned for soothing tones that may promote relaxation and stress reduction. Crystal bowls produce clear, high-frequency sounds that many believe cleanse and balance the chakras. Gongs add depth with powerful, reverberating sounds, while chimes bring a light, ethereal quality to the experience.

The combination of sound waves are designed to be heard but also felt physically, engaging the parasympathetic nervous system, and encouraging a deep state of relaxation. This may help lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormone levels, and slow the heart rate, inviting the body to potentially heal and restore itself and enhance wellbeing.

During the winter months this particularly supports the health of our kidneys, and in the Spring our liver. Sinking into deep shapes that stretch facia tissue, ligaments and tendons allows us to release stress and tension held in these tissues. We improve our ability to move well, sleep well and release mental tension.

On Thursday 27 March, a year since this loved member of our Yoga Creative Community passed, in a collaborative effort between, The Yoga Creative, PG Gallery, artist David Suff, and yoga mates Lesley and Allison we were able to donate an Art work in her memory to the Olivia Newton John Wellness Centre.

We were joined by members of Karen’s family for the handover in what was a moving experience for all of us. If you are in the centre, pause for a moment, enjoy the beautiful garden triptych and remember this joyful, passionate, woman, Karin Dinakis.

About the Art work.

These are the 3 Etchings by David Suff depicting seasons in a garden. The works were created by etching and engraving onto copper plates. They were then inked and hand printed using an etching press. Each colour requires a new plate, and then there is some delicate finishing work by hand with watercolours and a brush.

This beautiful squat is one of our all-time favourite poses. Malasana releases the lower back, opens the hips, and turns the practitioner into a cute little nugget. Explore variations and tips on how to make this pose easier or how to go deeper.

Beginner

It’s common for beginners to struggle with dropping their heels to the ground. Make sure to spin your heels in and toes out, as well as to widen your stance. You can also pop a rolled up blanket or yoga mat beneath the soul and heel. If it irritates your knees to drop into a full squat, sit on one or more blocks.

Intermediate

Step up the hip-opening element of this pose by incorporating your arms. Lean forward to wiggle your upper arms to the inside of your legs. Draw your palms together in front of your heart and push your heart into your thumbs. This will naturally encourage external rotation and give you that extra ahhhh moment.

Advanced

Full Malasana is traditionally performed with the feet together, knees wide, and the torso in a forward fold with either the arms extending or wrapped behind the heels. You typically see this pose done with feet wider than the hips (which is still a personal favorite to release back and hips after a long day).

At The Yoga Creative we believe it is important to introduce the body gradually to the range of movements and breathing techniques that Yoga provides. We work to support you in building up your knowledge of how the postures support the human condition whilst the postures strengthen and open up flexibility gradually and safely. Sometimes, enthusiastic newcomers can be lost in complicated flow movements, this can also increase the risk of injury in the rush to keep up. Movements can be performed incorrectly (particularly if the class is very large and the Instructor is hard to see or hear clearly)

Here at The Yoga Creative we have designed our space perfectly so our classes are small and intimate, providing the perfect environment to lean without judgement and our teachers are able to provide a 1:1 feeling during yoga class or meditation class in small friendly groups. We ensure all of our new students feel they can keep up, protected, safe and most of all enjoy their time reconnecting with self. We understand what every person is seeking out an introduction to yoga program which empowers them and is tailored specifically for individuals. We have a wealth of very experienced teachers holding the highest qualifications in the industry who guide and teach our newcomers whilst keeping a keen eye on postures, movements and abilities. We seek in advance to understand any injuries and impediments so our teachers can offer gentle and general level classes which are suitable for introductory level students across all ages and genders.

We at The Yoga Creative believe you follow the teachings, not the guru, our ethos is to listen carefully, act with purpose, and we never fail to lose sight of putting the health of people at the heart of everything we do.

When the founder of Gita Yoga, Margrit Segesman was diagnosed with arthritis, she didn’t just deal with it, she did something about it. Seeking guidance from a higher teaching, Margrit pioneered a whole new approach to Yoga understanding and harnessing the essences and the elements of science, nature and life force that positively inspires our physical and mental wellness.

At The Yoga Creative, we continue this long and proud tradition of women championing the human condition through Gita Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Relaxation, Therapy, Art, Creativity and self-connectivity. We differentiate with fluff-free focus in a small environment that concentrates everything. The senses. Balance. Breathing patterns. Energy flow.

There is a stretch in Yoga we call The Tree Pose. Maybe you are already familiar with it. It encourages us to be strong, steady and balanced. It’s so interesting to notice how this is much harder to achieve some days than others, rather like our lives. It’s a great one to practice at home away from distractions. In a class with lots of peripheral movement focus is disrupted and emotions like judgement can surface.

Hints for practicing Tree Pose

Anchor your feet firmly to the floor,or mat. You can even imagine your feet have roots anchoring you to the earth.

Check into your core, feel strong and centered.

One foot rests somewhere along the length of the leg, ankle to thigh but not the knee.

Bring the hands together and place in front of the chest.

Stay still focussed and steady.

If you can hold to this point bring the hands up overhead .

Return them to the chest, release the foot and change sides.

Pause for a moment and consider our relationship with trees, how essential they are to our existence. As we breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide, they do the reverse, enriching the air for us.

Join a weekly class and make it part of your well-being routine – as they say healthy spine, healthy mind!
